Travel Vaccine FAQs
Everything you need to know about travel vaccines and travel vaccinations at Kings Pharmacy.
Ideally at least 4–8 weeks before travel, as some vaccines require a course of multiple doses over several weeks to be fully effective. However, even if you're travelling soon, it's still worth visiting us — some protection is better than none, and same-day vaccinations are available for many vaccines.
Some vaccines recommended for travel are available free on the NHS (e.g. Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Cholera in certain cases). Others, such as Yellow Fever, Japanese Encephalitis, and Rabies, are not routinely funded by the NHS and are charged privately. Our team will advise you on what's covered and what isn't.
Yes. Many countries in sub-Saharan Africa and South America require proof of Yellow Fever vaccination (an International Certificate of Vaccination — ICVP) as a condition of entry. Kings Pharmacy is a registered Yellow Fever vaccination centre and can provide this certificate after vaccination.
Malaria is not treated by a vaccine but rather anti-malarial tablets taken before, during and after your trip. The specific tablets recommended depend on your destination. Our pharmacists will prescribe the appropriate tablets based on your itinerary and medical history.
Yes, we vaccinate children of all ages. Age-appropriate vaccines and dosing are used, and our pharmacists are trained in paediatric travel health. We recommend bringing your child's immunisation record so we can check what they've already had.
Our checker is based on NHS and WHO guidelines and is updated regularly. However, recommendations can vary based on your specific itinerary, activities, health status, and the time of year. It should be used as a guide only. A consultation with one of our travel health pharmacists will give you fully personalised advice.
