This is a prescription weight management tablet that works by blocking an enzyme called lipase in your gut. This prevents roughly 30% of the fat you eat from being broken down and absorbed, reducing your daily calorie intake. It does not suppress appetite — it specifically targets dietary fat.
This treatment is suitable for adults aged 18 and over with a BMI of 30 or higher. It can also be prescribed to those with a BMI of 27 or higher if they have weight-related health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Results vary between individuals. Clinical studies show that patients using this treatment alongside a calorie-controlled diet typically lose 5–10% of their starting body weight within 3–6 months. Treatment is generally continued for up to 12 months, and your prescriber will review whether it's working after 12 weeks.
Take one 120mg capsule three times a day — just before, during, or up to one hour after each main fat-containing meal. If you skip a meal, or your meal is very low in fat, you can skip that dose. Never take more than three capsules per day.
The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: oily or fatty stools, increased bowel movements, an urgent need to use the toilet, and oily spotting on underwear. These effects are directly related to fat consumption — the higher the fat content in your meals, the more pronounced these effects will be. Sticking to a low-fat diet significantly reduces these side effects.
Yes. This treatment should be taken alongside a calorie-controlled diet where no more than 30% of calories come from fat. We recommend spreading your fat intake evenly across your three main meals. This also helps minimise side effects. A multivitamin taken at bedtime is advisable since this treatment can reduce absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K.
