Gonorrhoea

Gonorrhea is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by bacteria called Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It can affect both men and women and is spread through sexual contact with an infected person, including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. Gonorrhea can also be passed from mother to baby during childbirth. People with gonorrhea may not always have symptoms, but when symptoms do occur, they can include pain or burning during urination, unusual discharge from the penis or vagina, and pain or swelling in the genitals. If left untreated, gonorrhea can lead to serious health problems, such as infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women, and epididymitis in men. Fortunately, gonorrhea is treatable with antibiotics. It's important to seek medical help if you think you may have gonorrhea or have been exposed to someone with the infection. Testing and treatment can help prevent the spread of gonorrhea and reduce the risk of complications. Practicing safe sex, using condoms consistently and correctly, and getting regular STI screenings are important steps in preventing gonorrhea and other STIs.
