Frequently asked questions

What is mometasone nasal spray and how does it work?

Mometasone nasal spray is a corticosteroid medication used to treat hay fever (allergic rhinitis). It works by reducing inflammation in the nasal passages, which helps relieve symptoms like congestion, sneezing, itching, and a runny nose.

Use mometasone nasal spray as directed by your healthcare provider, typically one or two sprays in each nostril once daily. Shake the bottle well before each use, and prime the spray if it hasn't been used for a while or if it's the first time you're using it. Follow the dosage instructions carefully for best results.

You may start to feel relief within 12 hours of using mometasone nasal spray, but it can take a few days of consistent use to achieve full effectiveness. For best results, continue using the spray regularly, even if symptoms improve.

Common side effects of mometasone nasal spray include headache, nosebleeds, sore throat, and nasal irritation. These side effects are usually mild and temporary. If you experience severe side effects like difficulty breathing or persistent nosebleeds, contact your doctor immediately.

Mometasone nasal spray can often be used alongside other allergy medications, such as antihistamines. However, you should consult your healthcare provider before combining treatments to ensure safety and avoid potential interactions.

Mometasone nasal spray is generally safe for long-term use when prescribed by a healthcare provider. It is often used throughout allergy seasons to manage symptoms effectively. Regular check-ups with your doctor are recommended to monitor your condition and adjust treatment if necessary.

Mometasone nasal spray is approved for use in children for treating hay fever. Unfortunately we do not supply this medication for children on our service, you will need to see your GP.

Store mometasone nasal spray at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children, and ensure the bottle is capped tightly when not in use. Do not use the spray after the expiration date printed on the package.

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.
