Frequently asked questions

What is doxycycline, and how does it treat chlamydia?
Doxycycline is an antibiotic medication that belongs to the tetracycline class. It works by killing the bacteria that cause chlamydia, helping to clear the infection from the body.
Dosage: The usual dosage for treating chlamydia with doxycycline is one 100 mg tablet taken twice a day. Duration: Treatment typically lasts for 7 days. Timing: Take each dose with a full glass of water, and you can take it with or without food.
Doxycycline is highly effective in treating chlamydia when taken as directed. It is one of the recommended first-line treatments for this infection.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, and sun sensitivity. These side effects are usually mild and temporary.
It's best to avoid alcohol while taking doxycycline, as it can reduce the effectiveness of the medication and may increase the risk of certain side effects.
Symptoms of chlamydia may improve within a few days of starting treatment, but it's important to complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed, even if you start feeling better.
It's recommended to avoid sexual activity during the treatment period to prevent spreading the infection to your partner(s). Once you have completed the full course of antibiotics and any symptoms have resolved, you should wait for at least one week before having sex again.
Yes, it's important to get re-tested for chlamydia approximately three months after completing treatment to ensure that the infection has been fully cleared from your body.
If you experience severe or persistent side effects, such as difficulty breathing, severe headache, or severe stomach pain, seek medical attention immediately and stop taking the medication.
