Fexofenadine is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms. The 120mg strength is used for seasonal allergic rhinitis or hay fever, while the 180mg strength is used for chronic idiopathic urticaria, including hives, itching and swelling.
Fexofenadine 120mg is licensed for hay-fever symptoms. Fexofenadine 180mg is licensed for chronic idiopathic urticaria and long-term allergic skin reactions. Select the strength required for your condition and complete the clinical assessment.
Take one 120mg tablet once daily with water before a meal, unless your prescriber gives you different instructions. Swallow the tablet whole and do not exceed the prescribed dose.
Take one 180mg tablet once daily with water before a meal, unless your prescriber gives you different instructions. Swallow the tablet whole and do not exceed the prescribed dose.
Fexofenadine generally begins relieving symptoms within approximately one hour. Its antihistamine effect can last for around 24 hours.
Fexofenadine is classed as a non-drowsy antihistamine, but some people may still experience drowsiness, sleepiness or dizziness. Check how it affects you before driving or operating machinery.
Indigestion remedies containing aluminium or magnesium can reduce the amount of fexofenadine absorbed. Leave approximately two hours between taking fexofenadine and one of these indigestion remedies.
Take fexofenadine with water. Apple, orange and grapefruit juice may reduce how much fexofenadine your body absorbs and could make the treatment less effective.
Take your next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.
Common side effects may include headache, drowsiness, nausea and dizziness. Uncommon effects may include tiredness and sleepiness. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist if a side effect concerns you or does not improve.
Stop taking fexofenadine and seek urgent medical help if you experience swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, chest tightness, difficulty breathing or another sign of a serious allergic reaction.
The manufacturer, packaging and tablet appearance may vary depending on availability. You will receive a UK-licensed fexofenadine product in the strength approved by the prescriber.
This service supplies prescription fexofenadine following an online clinical assessment. Our prescriber will review your answers and determine whether the selected strength is suitable for you.
