Frequently asked questions

What is Zithromax?

Zithromax is a brand name for azithromycin, an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, including chlamydia. It works by inhibiting the growth of Chlamydia trachomatis bacteria.

For chlamydia, Zithromax is usually prescribed as a single dose of 1 gram (1000 mg). Take the capsules orally with a full glass of water, and follow your healthcare provider’s instructions. Do not take more or less than prescribed.

Common side effects of Zithromax may include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and headache. These are typically mild and temporary. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience severe side effects like persistent diarrhea or signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash or difficulty breathing.

Yes, Zithromax can interact with other medications, including certain heart medications and blood thinners. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you are taking to avoid potential interactions.

Avoid taking Zithromax with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium within 2 hours, as they can reduce its effectiveness. If you have liver or kidney issues, inform your doctor, as this may affect how you should use the medication.

Zithromax is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but consult your healthcare provider to ensure it is suitable for your situation.

For chlamydia, Zithromax is usually prescribed as a single dose, so missing a dose is not applicable. If you have concerns about dosing in other contexts, consult your healthcare provider for advice.

Store Zithromax capsules at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep them out of reach of children and do not use them past their expiration date.
