Frequently asked questions

What is Omeprazole?
Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is commonly prescribed to treat conditions such as acid reflux, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and stomach ulcers.
Omeprazole works by inhibiting the proton pumps in the stomach lining, which are responsible for secreting gastric acid. By blocking these pumps, omeprazole decreases the overall production of stomach acid.
Acid reflux GERD Stomach ulcers Duodenal ulcers Erosive esophagitis Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
Take omeprazole exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the capsule or tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew it. It is usually taken once daily, at least 30 minutes before a meal. If you have difficulty swallowing capsules, omeprazole is available in a dispersible tablet form that can be dissolved in water or sprinkled on certain foods.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one at the regular time. Do not take two doses to make up for the missed one.

Generally, there are no specific foods or drinks to avoid. However, it’s best to avoid foods and beverages that can trigger acid reflux, such as: Spicy foods Fatty or fried foods Caffeine Alcohol Carbonated drinks
The duration of treatment depends on your condition and how you respond to the medication. Some people may need it for a few weeks, while others with chronic conditions might require long-term use.
Omeprazole is generally safe for long-term use when taken as prescribed. However, long-term use can increase the risk of certain side effects, such as vitamin B12 deficiency and bone fractures. Regular check-ups with your doctor are recommended to monitor your health.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the medication out of reach of children and pets.
Yes, combining omeprazole with lifestyle changes can improve acid reflux.
