Ibuprofen & Codeine Tablets contain ibuprofen (500 mg), a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and codeine phosphate (8 mg), an opioid analgesic.
Ibuprofen works by reducing inflammation and pain, while codeine acts on the central nervous system to relieve pain. This combination is intended for the short-term treatment of acute, moderate pain, such as dental pain, migraine, back pain, muscular pain, or period pain, when other painkillers have not worked.
This medicine should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time. Due to the presence of codeine, treatment should not exceed 3 days without medical advice.
How should I take Ibuprofen & Codeine Tablets?
Take 1 tablet up to three times daily if needed. Always leave at least 6 hours between doses. Do not exceed the stated dose.
How long can I take this medicine for?
Do not use for more than 3 days. If pain persists, speak to a healthcare professional.
Can this medicine cause side effects?
Possible side effects include stomach upset, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, constipation, or headache. Stop use and seek advice if you experience severe stomach pain, breathing problems, or allergic reactions.
Can I take this with other painkillers?
Do not take with other products containing ibuprofen, aspirin, codeine, or other opioids. Paracetamol may be used if advised by a pharmacist or doctor.
Is there a risk of dependence?
Yes. Codeine can cause dependence if taken for longer than recommended. This is why use is limited to a maximum of 3 days.
