What is Migraleve?

Migraleve is a combination medication specifically designed to treat the symptoms of migraines, including headache pain, nausea, and vomiting. The medication comes in two types of tablets: Migraleve Pink and Migraleve Yellow. The Pink tablets are typically used at the first sign of a migraine to alleviate initial symptoms, while the Yellow tablets can be used later if symptoms persist or if the migraine worsens.

How to Use Migraleve Tablets

Dosage:

  • Migraleve Pink: At the onset of a migraine, adults and children over 12 years should take 2 Migraleve Pink tablets. Do not take more than 2 tablets in 24 hours.
  • Migraleve Yellow: If the migraine persists after taking the Pink tablets, you can take 2 Migraleve Yellow tablets 4 hours later. Do not take more than 4 Yellow tablets in 24 hours.

Administration:

  • Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not crush or chew them. Migraleve is most effective when taken as soon as migraine symptoms begin.

Frequency:

  • Do not exceed the stated dose. If your migraine symptoms persist despite taking the medication, seek medical advice. Migraleve should not be used for more than 3 days in a row without consulting a doctor due to the risk of medication overuse headache (MOH) or dependency.

Who Should Use Migraleve?

Migraleve is suitable for adults and children over 12 years of age who suffer from migraines accompanied by symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. It is particularly useful for those who need both pain relief and relief from nausea.

Potential Side Effects of Migraleve

Like all medications, Migraleve can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Some of the potential side effects include:

  • Common Side Effects:
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Constipation
  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea or vomiting (though it is meant to help with nausea, some people may experience it as a side effect)
  • Serious Side Effects:
  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing)
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Symptoms of codeine overdose (slow or shallow breathing, extreme drowsiness, confusion)

If you experience any serious side effects or signs of an allergic reaction, stop taking Migraleve and seek medical attention immediately.

Precautions and Interactions

  • Before Taking Migraleve:
  • Inform your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, particularly liver or kidney disease, asthma, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Migraleve contains codeine, which can be addictive. Avoid using it for longer than prescribed or at higher doses.
  • Drug Interactions:
  • Migraleve may interact with other medications, including sedatives, antidepressants, and other pain relief medications. Always inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are currently taking.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking Migraleve, as it can increase drowsiness and the risk of serious side effects.

Storage Instructions

  • Store Migraleve tablets in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
  • Do not use the tablets after the expiry date printed on the packaging.

When to Seek Medical Advice

If your symptoms persist despite using Migraleve, or if you find yourself needing to use it frequently, consult your healthcare provider. Overuse of migraine medications can lead to more frequent headaches (medication overuse headache) and other health issues.

What is Migraleve used for?

Migraleve is used to treat the symptoms of migraines, including headache pain, nausea, and vomiting. The medication comes in two types of tablets: Migraleve Pink, which is taken at the onset of a migraine, and Migraleve Yellow, which is taken if symptoms persist.

At the first sign of a migraine, take 2 Migraleve Pink tablets. If symptoms persist, you can take 2 Migraleve Yellow tablets 4 hours later. Do not exceed the recommended dosage, and do not take more than 8 tablets (2 Pink and 6 Yellow) in 24 hours.

Migraleve is specifically designed for migraines and includes ingredients that target both pain and nausea. For regular headaches, other pain relief medications like paracetamol or ibuprofen may be more appropriate.

Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, and dry mouth. Serious side effects can include allergic reactions, difficulty urinating, and symptoms of codeine overdose. If you experience any severe side effects, seek medical attention immediately.

Migraleve may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or impair your ability to concentrate. It’s recommended to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medication affects you.

You should not use Migraleve for more than 3 consecutive days without consulting a doctor. Overuse can lead to medication overuse headaches (MOH) and dependency, especially due to the codeine content.

Migraleve contains paracetamol and codeine. Taking it with other medications containing paracetamol or codeine can increase the risk of overdose. Always consult with a healthcare professional before combining it with other painkillers.

Migraleve is taken as needed at the onset of migraine symptoms, so missing a dose is unlikely. However, if you need to take another dose after the Pink tablets, ensure that at least 4 hours have passed before taking the Yellow tablets.

Migraleve tablets are available over the counter at most pharmacies and online retailers such as Kings Pharmacy Online. Always ensure you purchase from a reputable source and follow the recommended dosage instructions.

Store Migraleve in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children. Keep the tablets in their original packaging, and do not use them past the expiry date.

Migraleve contains codeine, which can be habit-forming if used inappropriately or for long periods. It’s important to use Migraleve only as directed and consult your doctor if you feel you need to take it frequently.
