Paracetamol is a widely used pain reliever and fever reducer. Effervescent tablets dissolve in water before taking, which may make them easier to swallow and faster to absorb compared with standard tablets.

Paracetamol can help relieve a range of common symptoms including headaches, migraine, muscular aches, toothache, sore throat, and fever associated with colds and flu.

These tablets should be dissolved completely in a full glass of water before drinking. Effervescent tablets should never be swallowed whole.

Do not take more than the recommended dose. Taking too much paracetamol can cause serious liver damage, even if you feel well.

What are Paracetamol 500 mg Effervescent Tablets used for?

They are used to relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce fever, including headaches, toothache, muscle aches, sore throat, and cold or flu symptoms.

They are suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over.

Adults and children over 16 years can usually take 1–2 tablets every 4–6 hours if needed, with a maximum of 8 tablets (4 g) in 24 hours.

Children aged 12–15 years should take 1 tablet every 4–6 hours, up to a maximum of 4 tablets in 24 hours.

It usually starts working within about 1 hour after taking it.

Paracetamol can usually be taken with ibuprofen if needed, but do not take it with other medicines that contain paracetamol

Seek immediate medical advice, even if you feel well, as overdose can cause delayed liver damage.

If pain lasts longer than 3 days, symptoms worsen, or new symptoms appear, consult your GP or pharmacist.

Paracetamol is generally considered the preferred pain relief option during pregnancy, but you should still seek medical advice before use.
